US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new taskforce. Dubbed the 'Super Intelligence Force', aimed at overseeing artificial intelligence policy in the country.

The taskforce, led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, will coordinate the government's engagement with the public, consumers, and critical infrastructure providers.

Trump signed an executive order on September 29 to rename AI as Super Intelligence, following a "morally binding" pact signed by top tech bosses. The pact includes executives from OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, and Google. This move comes after growing pressure from industry figures to tighten regulation of AI.

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman has stated that the benefits of AI justify accepting some of its risks.

The Super Intelligence Force will work to ensure that the US continues to lead in the technology's development and will coordinate the government's engagement with the public, as stated by President Trump. It is part of a broader effort to address concerns around AI safety, following a series of high-profile incidents and accidents.

Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of Defense for Research, Engineering Emil Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor will also be part of the taskforce, providing a diverse range of expertise and perspectives.

The taskforce's establishment is seen as a response to the growing influence of super intelligence companies. Which have been accused of prioritizing profits over public safety. The Federal Trade Commission has been working closely with the taskforce to ensure that the development and deployment of super intelligence are subject to strong regulation and oversight.

The Super Intelligence Force will report directly to the president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Providing a clear line of authority and accountability. The taskforce's chief, Clayton, took office as the US national intelligence director in August after Trump's original choice, Bill Pulte, was rejected by lawmakers.

As the US continues to navigate the complex and rapidly evolving landscape of super intelligence, the creation of the Super Intelligence Force is seen as a important step towards ensuring that the technology is developed and deployed in a responsible and sustainable manner.
