India has welcomed back a key figure in its fight against narcotics trafficking. As Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the deportation of Navpreet Singh, a notorious narco-trafficker at large for over two years.
Singh, 34, had been evading authorities while allegedly leading a vast international syndicate, with his cousin Prabhdeep Singh overseeing operations in India. The move comes after Singh was apprehended in Türkiye, marking a significant development in the country's efforts to curb the illicit trade.
Details have emerged about a high-profile case involving Indian national Singh. Whose Turkish citizenship was recently revoked following an investigation into his alleged involvement in a complex web of international crime. Authorities have confirmed that Singh had been using a false identity to smuggle large quantities of heroin and methamphetamine into India from Afghanistan.

Singh's deportation was secured through a concerted effort by law enforcement agencies. This includes the Delhi Police Special Cell and Interpol Liaison Officers, which secured his extradition from Turkey.
India has formally requested the extradition of Navpreet. A fugitive at large, to Turkey, a move that marks the latest salvo in the Modi administration's concerted push to bring back those deemed beyond Indian jurisdiction.
This campaign, led by Shah, has been closely tied to the government's broader vision for national rejuvenation, encompassing economic stability, law and order, and national security. The move is also in line with the Money Laundering Act. Which aims to combat organized crime and money laundering in the country.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 288 fugitives from 36 countries have been brought back to India between 2019 and August 2026. Over the past three years, Interpol Red Corner Notices have been released against 401 fugitive criminals – 40 in 2022, 100 in 2023, 107 in 2024, 112 in 2025, and 182 released through July 2026.
This brings the total number of fugitives brought back to India to over 400. This marked a significant milestone in the government's efforts to combat transnational crime.

The State Police Headquarters played a important step in the deportation of Navpreet Singh. Working closely with the Delhi Police Special Cell to secure his extradition from Turkey. The Interpol Liaison Officers also played a key role in facilitating the deportation process.
Navab Virk, a key figure in the Indian underworld, has been linked to Navpreet Singh's international narcotics syndicate. The exact nature of their relationship is still unclear, but sources suggest that Virk may have provided logistical support to Singh's operations.
Prabhdeep Singh, Navpreet's cousin, was extradited from Azerbaijan on May 13 by the CBI, acting in coordination with the Delhi Police Special Cell. Singh's extradition is seen as a significant development in the government's efforts to combat narco-trafficking in the country.
