Key Highlights

  • Custodes units boast Toughness 7, 5 wounds, a 2+ save, 4+ invulnerable save, and a 5+ feel no pain against mortal wounds.
  • Sentinel Guard's blades have gained an extra attack and increased to damage 2.
  • Pallas Grav Attack's main gun has seen perhaps the biggest upgrade in 40K history.

The Adeptus Custodes, once perceived as an army of augmented Space Marine Terminators, now possess the statistical backing to support their demigod reputation.

At the core of the Custodes' new stat line lies a minimum of Toughness 7. 5 wounds, a 2+ save, 4+ invulnerable save, and a 5+ feel no pain against mortal wounds.

However, it is the more elite units, such as the Aquilon Terminators and Gyrfalcon Jetbikes, that truly showcase the Custodes' capabilities. This allows even chapter masters like Marneus Calgar to excel.

Almost every weapon profile has undergone significant improvements in the new codex. With the Sentinel Guard's blades now boasting an additional attack and increased damage.

The Castellan axes wielded by Wardens and Terminators have seen their strength and damage increased to 10 and 4, respectively. Meanwhile, most ranged weapons have gained enhanced strength and doubled their shot count.

The Adeptus Custodes' vehicles have also received substantial upgrades, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

The Pallas Grav Attack's main gun has been transformed into a formidable force, capable of delivering devastating damage to enemy forces.

Long-time Custodes fans will be thrilled to see the return of the Shield Hosts, subfactions with unique specialisations and powerful rules.

The Shadow Keepers have been bolstered on objectives. Meanwhile, the Solar Watch have seen increased mobility, and the Dread Host have mastered the art of manipulating movement around melee combat.

However, the points costs for the Custodes have been significantly overhauled, resulting in a more streamlined and efficient army.

Given the strong showing of the first two Codexes. The Space Marines and Orks, respectively, it is likely that the Custodes will be overtuned in the short term.

However, points can be adjusted in future balance updates, and Games Workshop has successfully captured the essence of the Custodes, setting the stage for a compelling and competitive army.
