Actor-Director Anshuman Jha on Fatherhood, Struggle, and the Art of Acting

Actor-director Anshuman Jha, known for his critically acclaimed film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), has shared insights into the choices that have shaped his journey so far. Jha, who has never been one to follow the conventional route, reflects on the decisions that led him to become a successful actor and director.

Reflecting on his decision to pursue acting. Jha notes that his mother had initially encouraged him to become an IAS officer, but he had other plans. He deliberately left his first unit-test papers blank, which led to a conversation with his principal and his mother.

This experience highlights Jha's willingness to challenge the status quo and forge his own path.

As a father, Jha has adopted an unconventional approach to his daughter's early education. He and his wife have been reading the Bhagavad Gita to her before she was born. And she has now begun reading it with him.

Their goal is to expose her to various texts by the time she is five years old. This includes the Bible and the Quran. This approach reflects Jha's commitment to providing his daughter with a well-rounded education.

For Jha, fatherhood is a transformative experience that has given him a new perspective on life. He finds joy in the simplest moments with his daughter, who wakes up every morning with a big smile.

This understanding of parenthood has also influenced his upcoming film Om Ka Hari, a father-son drama comedy co-starring Raghubir Yadav.

Although Jha's father passed away in 2020, their relationship was close and open. Jha's father had sent him a message before his passing, recommending a film called Lucy, which Jha loves. This experience has left Jha with a sense of regret.

As he wishes he could have expressed his love for his father more openly.

Looking back on his journey, Jha sees struggle as an essential part of growth and development. He believes that one can only become the best version of oneself by facing challenges head-on. Jha remains committed to his craft, rejecting the idea of having a backup plan in acting.

Instead, he advocates for taking risks and being open to new experiences.

Beyond acting, Jha expresses his desire to return to his role as an assistant director. There, he can learn from filmmakers he admires. He has no ego and would be happy to assist Zoya Akhtar, a filmmaker he greatly respects.

Jha's next project, Lakadbaggha 3, will demand significant physical transformation, and he is committed to delivering a performance that will meet the expectations of his audience.

As Jha prepares for his upcoming film, he is mindful of his responsibility to his audience. He believes that actors owe it to their viewers to deliver high-quality performances, and he is committed to doing just that. With his upcoming film, Jha aims to create a memorable experience for his audience, one that will leave a lasting impact.
