India's mutual fund industry has seen significant growth. With assets under management (AUM) rising to Rs 87.08 lakh crore in August 2026. A 15.8% increase from the previous year's total of Rs 75.19 lakh crore. This growth has been driven by a surge in investor participation.
With 71 lakh new investors added over the past year. Bringing the total number of unique investor accounts to 6.28 crore, representing a 14% increase from 5.49 crore a year earlier.
The sector's performance has been characterized by a steady rise in monthly SIP gross sales. Which reached an all-time high of Rs 32,297 crore in August 2026. This marked a 14% increase from Rs 28,265 crore in August 2025. This growth has been accompanied by a rise in SIP accounts, which have grown by 12.1% year-on-year to 10.75 crore.

Meanwhile, the average SIP ticket size has increased to Rs 3,003 per month, up from Rs 2,947 a year earlier.
The industry's growth has also been driven by a shift towards passive products. With passive schemes accounting for 37% of the total schemes, compared with 34% a year earlier. The number of passive schemes has increased to 735, while active schemes have remained relatively stable at 1,250.
Domestic institutional investors have seen net inflows of Rs 8.4 lakh crore over the last 12 months through August 2026. Contrasting with net outflows of Rs 4.5 lakh crore for foreign portfolio investors during the same period. This trend reflects the growing confidence of domestic investors in the mutual fund sector.

Looking ahead, the industry is expected to continue its growth trajectory, driven by increasing investor participation and a rise in SIP sales. The Mutual Fund Industry Dashboard, which tracks the sector's performance, has predicted a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.8% for the industry over the past year, highlighting the sector's resilience and potential for further growth.
As the industry continues to evolve, it is likely that we will see a continued shift towards passive products and a rise in SIP sales. With the industry's assets under management expected to reach Rs 1.08 lakh crore by August 2027. It is clear that the mutual fund sector is poised for continued growth and success.
