89 Backpack Wins Fat Bear Week Competition with Narrow Victory Over 910

Backpack, a brown bear known as 89, has emerged as the winner of the annual Fat Bear Week competition, held by the Katmai National Park in Alaska. The competition, now in its thirteenth year, is run by the National Parks Service and attracts bears from across the country. This year's winner was announced after a fierce battle of size.

Skill, and strategic loafing, with Backpack narrowly defeating 910 to earn 103,344 votes to 910's 98,253 in the final round.

The competition is designed to showcase the fattest and most formidable bears in the park, with the winner earning the title of "Fat Bear" and a spot in the park's history books. The bears, including 910, have been competing since June, when they began to gorge on food to gain weight ahead of hibernation.

The competition is a popular event among park visitors, with over 1.7 million votes cast from more than 100 countries last year.

The Fat Bear Week competition has been held annually since 2014, with the event gaining popularity in recent years. The competition is designed to promote the park's wildlife and conservation efforts. As well as to raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural habitats.
