Revolutionary Sound-Powered Fire Protection System Gains Momentum
Sonic Fire Tech is on the cusp of changing the way we approach fire protection. For over a century, traditional methods have relied on water and chemicals to prevent catastrophic fires, but these methods come with significant cleanup costs.
The Ohio-based startup has raised $15 million in funding, led I.O. Fund and Khosla Ventures, to develop its innovative sound-powered fire protection system.
This technology uses a sound generator to pump inaudible sound through PVC pipes in the ceiling, which can detect fires and deploy infrasonic waves to suppress flames within seconds.
Co-founder and CEO Geoff Bruder believes that his team's process will be significantly shorter than the typical three-year approval period from the National Fire Protection Association. The system's advantage lies in its ability to prevent messy water and chemical damage, which should speed up the cleanup process.

Commercial kitchens, for example, often face months of restoration following a fire, with only 25% reopening. Sonic Fire Tech's technology could significantly reduce this risk, as it doesn't leave a mess after a fire suppression event.
The startup is in talks with insurers about whether its system will qualify for premium discounts, which could accelerate adoption. The insurance industry's acceptance would be a major boost to the company's product.
Sonic Fire Tech is working on systems to protect commercial buildings, kitchens, and homes, both for new construction and retrofits. The technology also shows promise in containing lithium-ion battery fires, which are notoriously challenging to put out.
With its innovative approach, Sonic Fire Tech aims to lower restoration costs and minimize the risk of catastrophic house fires. As the company continues to develop its system, it's clear that this revolutionary technology could be a game-changer in the world of fire protection.
