73.39 lakh voters dropped in Telangana SIR draft rolls; 92 lakh to get notices

More than 73 million voters have been removed from Telangana's voter list after draft rolls were released on Monday. The Election Commission has collected over 78% of the enumeration forms from a total of 33.8 million voters.

The Chief Electoral Officer, C Sudarshan Reddy, said that around 92 lakh voters will receive notices due to anomalies in their electoral rolls.

A total of 9.2 million voters were found to be deceased, while 57.5 million had shifted permanently or were absent from the voter list. Additionally, 6.7 million electors were found to have been enrolled in multiple places.

Booth Level Officers did not receive the rest of the enumeration forms because many of these voters had moved to other states and union territories, or did not submit their forms on time.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the participation in the voter list purification process has been overwhelming. The lists of absent/shifted/dead/duplicate electors will be displayed on notice boards at local government offices and on the website.

Electors who could not submit their enumeration forms can now file Form 6 to include themselves in the updated list. Those who want to correct their entries will also have an opportunity to do so.

The deadline for filing claims and objections is between August 17 and September 16, while the notice phase and disposal of claims will take place between August 17 and October 15.

During the exercise, over 35,000 polling station workers were deployed across the state's 33 districts. Political parties also sent 49,018 booth-level agents to assist with the process.
