Key Highlights

  • Silent Hill: Townfall's CRTV vision mechanic allows players to see enemy outlines and plan their approach.
  • The mechanic provides a sense of control and strategy, enhancing the gameplay experience.
  • Silent Hill: Townfall is a horror game that challenges players to survive in a small Scottish town.

As a self-proclaimed horror game enthusiast, I was both excited and apprehensive about Silent Hill: Townfall. The game's use of a CRTV (Cathode Ray Tube Vision) device. Which allows players to see enemy outlines, is a departure from the traditional hiding mechanics found in other horror games.

In this review, I'll explore how the CRTV vision mechanic affects gameplay and my overall experience with the game.

Upon starting the game, I was immediately struck by the unsettling atmosphere and writing, which I praised in my previous review of Silent Hill f. The game's setting, a small Scottish town, is eerily normal until the nightmare becomes apparent.

The CRTV vision mechanic is a key aspect of this experience, allowing players to see enemy outlines and plan their approach accordingly.

While it's not a major shift, it does keep the action pacey and encourages players to take a more active role in their survival. I found myself using the CRTV vision to track enemy movements and plan my approach. Which added a new layer of strategy to the game.

One of the most significant benefits of the CRTV vision mechanic is the sense of control it provides. In games where hiding is a primary mechanic, such as Outlast or Amnesia: The Dark Descent, I often find myself hiding for extended periods, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

In Silent Hill: Townfall, the CRTV vision mechanic allows me to feel more in control, as I can see my enemies and plan my approach.

Overall, the CRTV vision mechanic in Silent Hill: Townfall is a welcome addition to the game. While it's not a revolutionary new mechanic, it does provide a sense of control and strategy that enhances the gameplay experience. If you're a fan of horror games or are looking for a new challenge, Silent Hill: Townfall is definitely worth checking out.
