A key role is unfolding in Kerala's state Assembly. There, the Congress government is poised to table a resolution on Monday, a significant escalation in its efforts to oust Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This development marks a first for any state assembly in India.

As Kerala is set to become the first to introduce a resolution seeking the removal of the CEC. Chief Minister V D Satheesan is slated to move the resolution.

The resolution's passage is seen as a significant step in the national campaign. With the Congress and the CPI(M) being part of the movement. The resolution was initially moved by the then Left Democratic Front (LDF) regime in September last year, against the rollout of SIR.

The second session of the 16th Legislative Assembly is set to begin on Monday. With the resolution expected to be passed in the Assembly.

In a significant legislative development, Kerala's CPI(M) government last September successfully tabled a resolution in the state Legislative Assembly, which was adopted unanimously. The resolution, led by then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan under the Assembly's rule 118, directed the Election Commission to reconsider its plans to implement the Single-Use Receipt system nationwide.

This move marked a notable first for the state. As it was the first time a resolution had been tabled against the SIR system.

The resolution to be presented in the Assembly would demand the reinstatement of voting rights for all eligible voters who have been removed from the electoral rolls. This would be achieved after rectifying the anomalies in the SIR process.

Additionally, the resolution would also demand the reconstitution of the committee for selecting Election Commissioners, which would include the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Congress and the CPI(M) are expected to continue their campaign, with the resolution being part of the ongoing national movement.
