Kalaranjini Reveals How She Helped Makeup Artist Responsible for Her Lost Voice

Kalaranjini, a renowned actress with a decades-long career in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films, has shared a poignant story of her experience with a makeup artist who was responsible for her lost voice on set. The incident occurred decades ago when Kalaranjini consumed fake blood that was mistakenly prepared using acid instead of coconut oil.

The actress, who is also the sister of actors Kalpana and Urvashi, recalled the incident on the Can Channel Media YouTube channel. She revealed that the entire crew was upset with the makeup artist, KV Bhaskar, and that he was largely avoided on sets.

During the production of a film, Kalaranjini collaborated with Prem Nazir, with her character's demise involving a gruesome vomiting scene. The actress recounted that an intense burning sensation in her throat and mouth ensued upon being splashed with fake blood. Her ordeal led to extensive medical treatment, resulting in permanent vocal damage and a three-month hospital stay.

For the actress, finding her footing on set was a gradual process. Her colleagues have been known to fall silent whenever she delivers her lines, a shows the importance of her vocal delivery. Prior to her own contributions, renowned voice actor Ambili had taken on the task of dubbing her parts, a practice that continued until her passing.

It wasn't until director Rosshan Andrews, helming the films Chirakodinja Kinavukal and For Bharathanatyam, encouraged her to record her own voice that she began to make a lasting impact.
