Jeanie Buss’ Is Contesting Siblings’ Attempts To Sell Lakers’ Share

The Los Angeles Lakers' controlling governor, Jeanie Buss, is opposing her siblings' efforts to sell the family's remaining ownership stake to new majority owners Bob Iger and Josh Kushner.

Buss' lawyer, Adam Streissand, claims that such a sale would be a breach of trust and court order. In 2017, a judge ruled that Jeanie will remain the Lakers' controlling owner for life, and this order has not changed.

Streissand wrote in a letter to the Buss siblings' attorneys that Jeanie is the controlling owner and should be recognized as such He disputed reports that the family decided to sell its minority ownership share because Jeanie did not approve of it, stating that all or most of the siblings would need to vote in favor of the sale for Jeanie to lose her position.

If the sale goes through, Jeanie could be terminated as governor. However, she intends to fight this and ensure that the Buss family maintains its ownership shares. The situation highlights the complex web of trust and loyalty within the Lakers' ownership group.

The dispute comes after a recent front office shakeup, with Jeanie firing her brother Jim as head of basketball operations in 2017. The Buss family's latest effort could result in Jeanie's termination, but she is determined to protect her position.
