I&B officer wanted Rs 10 lakh bribe to clear file, CBI catches him in act

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Controller of Accounts posted with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in a Rs 10 lakh bribery case. According to a spokesperson from the central agency, the CBI registered a case on August 18 against Sandeep, an Indian Civil Accounts Service officer of the 2020 batch.

The complaint alleged that Sandeep had demanded Rs 15 lakh to clear a file swiftly, with negotiations resulting in him agreeing to accept Rs 10 lakh from the complainant. The CBI gathered evidence during its initial enquiry and laid a trap on Tuesday, catching Sandeep when he was accepting the bribe amount through his wife.

Following the arrest, CBI officials searched his office and seized some files. The spokesperson added that the accused had allegedly sought the bribe for clearing the renewal file of a private company's contract that was pending before him.

The investigation is ongoing, with the CBI working to build a strong case against Sandeep. This arrest highlights the agency's commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring accountability in government institutions.

As the CBI continues its probe, officials are examining the extent of Sandeep's involvement and potential connections to other alleged corrupt activities within the ministry. The arrest is seen as a significant step forward in the fight against bribery and corruption in India's public sector.
