India and Bangladesh Explore November Dates for Tarique Rahman's India Visit Amid Diplomatic Tensions

India and Bangladesh are on the cusp of reviving their relations with a bilateral visit to India by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Set to take place in the latter half of November. The development comes after External Affairs Ministry officials initiated talks between the two nations, led by Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi.

The move is seen as an attempt to put their relations back on track. This comes after a tumultuous period marked by diplomatic challenges and tensions over issues such as Sheikh Hasina's extradition. Rahman took office in February after winning the Bangladesh general elections, which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to sources, the two sides are now exploring possible dates that suit Prime Minister Narendra ModiIt's schedule, with the formal paperwork expected to be completed soon. The Indian government must approve the official agreement for Rahman's visit to materialize.

The bilateral visit is also seen as an opportunity for both countries to address outstanding issues and strengthen their ties. Rahman had initially accepted India's invitation in August but it failed to materialise due to various reasons, including controversy surrounding his remarks on Hasina's extradition.

Hasina has been living in India since 2013 and her extradition remains a contentious issue between the two countries. The Bangladesh government is demanding a clear response from India on this matter, which is expected to be discussed during Rahman's visit.

The bilateral visit marks a new chapter in the relations between India and Bangladesh. With both countries looking to overcome their differences and strengthen their ties. With the BIMSTEC grouping currently chaired by India.

A change of leadership is also underway at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. With High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah set to take up a new role as Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN. Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam is expected to succeed him as the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh.
