Houser Avoids GTA 6 to Focus on New Projects

Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser is trying to avoid the hype surrounding GTA 6. Saying he doesn't need to see what other people are doing to stay creative. In an interview with Variety, Houser shared his approach to avoiding distractions and focusing on his new projects at Absurd Ventures.

Houser's new company has multiple multi-media projects in the works, including an open-world comedy game and a dystopian sci-fi project. The comedy game, which Houser describes as "trying to really lean into comedy and character memory," will have more information released in the next few months.

"It's a privilege to be tied to stuff that was really successful and to have worked in great teams with great people and do innovative new things," Houser said. "All we're trying to do now is do a version of that for this period, and try and do it in a new way and see if there's anything interesting we can say with new IP."

Earlier this year, Absurd Ventures revealed some of the cast list for its AAA "story-driven" open-world project, Absurdaverse, featuring stars from 30 Rock and Billions.

Houseer's self-imposed discipline involves concentrating on his own initiatives, rather than measuring himself against others. This approach allows him to maintain a clear mental space. Free from the influence of external stimuli that might compromise his creative workflow.

Reflecting on past experiences, Houser seeks to continually refine her approach, eschewing introspection that might involve comparing her decisions to those of others.
