Alonzo Lunsford, a former US Army sergeant who survived the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, has expressed support for the execution of Nidal Hasan by firing squad. However, has raised concerns about the potential for the execution to be livestreamed.
Lunsford, who was shot seven times in the attack that killed 13 unarmed US soldiers, told the BBC that the method of execution was "befittingTo show the whole thing without it being censored for the general public, for me personally, I don't agree with that, but it's not about my personal belief," he said.
The Fort Hood shooting occurred on November 5, 2009. At that time, Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist, opened fire on fellow soldiers at a medical building on the base. Lunsford, who was shot above his left eye and twice in the back, managed to escape and later told investigators that Hasan had attacked him and another soldier.
Lunsford described the moment when Hasan shot him, saying: I was looking for an exit via the back door. This was two or three strides away from me when I was first shot above my left eye and then hit two more times in my back.
He also recalled the moment when Hasan shot another wounded soldier, saying: "We heard a gunshot and the last thing that girl was saying was: 'Oh my god, my baby, my baby.'".
The Pentagon has announced that Hasan will be executed by firing squad, a method that Lunsford supports.

Lunsford also expressed his Christian faith, saying: "I cannot heal if I don't forgive him" He added: "We're taught that with your last breath you can ask for forgiveness and reports suggest that's what he [Hasan] should do,".
