Adele Lim, co-writer of the upcoming film, heralds its arrival as a long-awaited sequel to the hit series. The project, set to air on HBO, marks a significant development for the network. This announcement comes on the heels of a major corporate merger.

With Warner Bros' parent company, Warner Bros Discovery, combining with Paramount Global and Skydance Media to form a £110 billion (£82.8 billion) entity.

The series, co-produced by HBO and Warner Bros Television, will start production next year. "Constance, Henry, Ronny, and Michelle are global superstars, and we know the passionate fans of the film and megahit novels can't wait to see more," said Casey Bloys, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance Direct-To-Consumer.

The film, which topped the US box office and was nominated for two Golden Globes, featured an all-Asian cast and told the story of an Asian-American woman who gets a culture shock meeting her boyfriend's ultra-wealthy family in Singapore. Adapted from Kwan's bestseller books, written between 2013 and 2017, the film changed the face of Hollywood with its all-Asian cast.

The series will be a continuation of the story, with Lim saying "Our writers room is humming and we can't wait to share what we've come up with." The show will explore the characters and worlds of the books, and fans are eagerly awaiting the news.
