Vijay Sethupathi Set to Star in Hollywood Remake of Tamil Film Maharaja

Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed his interest in acting in the Hollywood remake of his film Maharaja. This is being produced by Think Studios and Passion Studios, with Anurag Kashyap serving as an executive producer. The film's director, Nithilan Saminathan, recently shared the story of Maharja 2 with Sethupathi, who expressed excitement about the project.

The Hollywood remake rights were sold to a major studio after the success of the Tamil film in China. Which grossed ₹91 crore and became a huge hit in the international market. The film's narrative revolves around a father's quest for justice after his prized dustbin, Lakshmi, is pilfered.

This prompted him to file a complaint at the local police station.

The producers have confirmed that the remake will go on floors by next year, although no further details have been revealed. An official announcement was made on social media.

Officials stated that #Maharaja becomes the first Tamil film to be made in Hollywood by a major studio. TOI reported that Sachana Namidass, who played the lead role in the original film, is expected to reprise her role in the remake.

The success of Maharaja can be attributed to its unique narrative and the talented cast, including Mamta Mohandas and Sudhan Sundaram. The film's audio launch event was attended by industry bigwigs, including Natty Subramaniam, who praised Sethupathi's performance in the film.

Maharaja's debut outing in June 2024 proved to be a box office triumph, raking in over ₹199.20 crore globally. The movie was released under the banner of About Maharaja and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Vijay Sethupathi expressed his enthusiasm for acting in the remake during an audio launch event. He also confirmed that he would reprise his role as the protagonist, Lakshmi's father, in the Hollywood version of Maharaja.

The deal was reportedly finalized with Think Studios and Passion Studios as producers. Matthew McConaughey is rumored to be attached to play the lead role, although no official confirmation has been made.

Anurag Kashyap expressed his excitement about the remake of Maharaja during an interview with TOI. He praised Nithilan Saminathan's direction and the original film's narrative, which he believes will translate well to the big screen.
