Thrissur Police arrested six individuals, including the wife of a man from Tamil Nadu, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman from Malappuram in Kerala. This comes after an investigation that revealed the wife had tracked the victims through a QR payment made at a hotel.
The six individuals arrested include Thomas Priyadarsan Dev. A 27-year-old native of Nilgiris, Regupathi Raja, a 20-year-old from Dindugal, Sankar, a 20-year-old from Karur, and Balraj, a 31-year-old from Kadavur. A magistrate court in Thrissur remanded them to judicial custody for two weeks.
The assistant commissioner explained that the gang members. All taxi drivers, were tracked down through the QR payment, which allowed the wife to locate her husband.

The victims were reportedly returning from a trip to Wayanad when they checked into a hotel. The wife, needing money, contacted her husband and shared the hotel's merchant payment QR code, which enabled her to pay for the room. The next day, the gang allegedly stormed into the victims' room, abducted them, and took them to Tiruppur.
There, the woman was sexually assaulted.
The woman managed to escape while the group was relocating her. According to the officer, two passersby noticed a woman with torn clothes sitting in the car and alerted the locals, who helped her reach the nearest railway station and return to Kerala.

The woman lodged a complaint with her home district Malappuram police, who transferred the case to Thrissur. The investigation revealed that the victims had met in Ernakulam during the taxi driver's trip to Kerala. It is unclear whether the arrested gang has any prior criminal records.
The QR payment made at the hotel's payment system is believed to have exposed the victims' whereabouts.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the gang's involvement and any potential prior connections to criminal activity.
