Sunny Deols Batwara 1947 Struggles to Gain Momentum at the Box Office
Batwara 1947, a period drama starring Sunny Deol, has faced a steep drop in collections on its first Monday, putting its theatrical run under pressure.
The film, which marked Deol's return to the big screen after last year's Jaat, opened alongside Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2, making the box office competition even tougher.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Batwara 1947 earned just ₹2 crore net in India on its first Monday, with around 11% occupancy across 6,771 shows. This is a significant drop from its Sunday collection of ₹7.25 crore.
The film's four-day India net collection stands at ₹28.50 crore, while its India gross has reached ₹33.95 crore. However, the big Monday drop raises concerns about the film's ability to maintain audience interest once the weekend is over.

Batwara 1947 is also falling behind its box office rival, Awarapan 2, which earned ₹9.25 crore net on the same day and moved closer to the ₹100 crore mark.
The film had several factors working in its favour, including a strong cast and a story rooted in the partition of India. However, despite receiving favourable reviews, it has struggled to translate this into strong theatrical footfalls.
Directed around the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, Batwara 1947 follows Sikandar Mirza, a Muslim man who finds himself caught between protecting his family and helping a Hindu woman in need. The film's storyline is set against the tumultuous backdrop of one of India's most significant events.
With its steep drop in collections on Monday, Batwara 1947 faces an uncertain future at the box office. Will it be able to regain momentum and stay ahead of its rival, or will it struggle to survive?
