Dhulia Says Love Stories Are ‘Not Worth Making’

Tigmanshu Dhulia, a renowned filmmaker and actor, has expressed his disdain for love stories as a genre. In an exclusive chat, he shared his thoughts on why he prefers gritty and rooted stories over romantic tales.

When asked about the possibility of making an urban love story, Dhulia was unequivocal in his dismissal. He noted that there are far more interesting subjects to explore beyond love stories. Which he finds unengaging due to their predictability and lack of substance.

Dhulia pointed out that people often overlook his varied work beyond rustic, dacoit settings. He mentioned that his first film Haasil was on student politics, while Saib Biwi Aur Gangster explores the decadence-fueled society. Paan Singh Tomar and Ghamasaan are two films he has directed in dacoit settings.

Interestingly, Dhulia's work often draws inspiration from real-life events and figures, such as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who played a key role in India's struggle for independence. This approach to storytelling allows him to tap into the complexities of human nature and societal issues.

Dhulia also shared his experience as an actor, having acted in Shaagird with Nana Patekar. He revealed that he never pursued acting due to self-doubt but gained confidence after working on Gangs Of Wasseypur.

With so many problems facing the world, he finds it challenging to become invested in someone's love story.
