Dr. Rakesh Gupta Arrested in Rs 168 Crore Money-Laundering Case.

Dr. Rakesh Gupta, chairman and managing director of Sadhna Group, was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) early on Saturday following his arrest in a money-laundering case involving alleged proceeds of crime worth Rs 168 crore.

The arrest comes on the heels of an FIR registered by the Delhi PoliceIt was Economic Offences Wing on September 29. Under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

Gupta, 63, was apprehended at 10:25 pm on Friday at Ishwar Farms in Vasant Kunj and presented before the court at 2:03 am on Saturday at a residential camp office, just two hours after the grounds of his arrest were submitted and within 24 hours of his arrest.

According to the ED, Gupta and his associates received approximately Rs 2.50 to Rs 2.82 crore in cash through the resale of SMPL/Aryan TV, which led to SMPL paying Rs 4.48 crore to connected creditors. This includes Rs 299,55,042.35 to his own company, M/s Sharpline Broadcast Ltd.

The agency alleges that SEBI, in a final order dated May 29 last year, identified Gupta as the mastermind behind the alleged manipulation of shares of M/s Sadhna Broadcast Ltd and held him jointly and severally liable for approximately Rs 58 crore.

The ED intends to confront Gupta with data from his seized iPhone 13 Pro and iPad Pro. As well as statements from co-persons recorded on October 9. The agency also plans to examine telecast receipts in Dubai and Sydney.

Identify books, bank, and demat records at the Gol Market office, and determine the role of M/s Saroj Constwell Pvt Ltd.

The ED's investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming days. As the case unfolds, it is likely to shed light on the alleged manipulation of shares and the money-laundering activities of Sadhna Group.
