Los Angeles, September 8 - Apple TV has confirmed that its Emmy and BAFTA-winning spy series "Slow Horses" will return for an eighth season, with a sixth-season premiere set for September 16. The announcement comes ahead of the show's latest installment, which will be adapted from author Mick Herron's ninth novel in the "Slough House" book series.

Season eight will see Jackson Lamb, played by Academy Award winner Gary Oldman, and MI5 second-in-command Diana Taverner face off in what the streamer describes as their most explosive confrontation yet. According to the official synopsis, when a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, Lamb must unravel one of MI5's darkest secrets and put an end to it.

"Slow Horses" continues to charm audiences all around the world and I'm delighted that Jackson Lamb and his gang of lovable misfits will be back for an eighth season," said Jay Hunt, creative director, International, Apple TV. "Their acerbic take on the high-octane world of espionage is completely unique."

The show follows a dysfunctional group of British intelligence agents who are relegated to Slough House. A dumping-ground department of MI5, after career-ending mistakes. Oldman stars as Lamb, the brilliant but cantankerous leader of the group.

"Slow Horses" is produced for Apple TV by See-Saw Films, with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Douglas Urbanski, Ben Vanstone, Adam Randall, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux, Billy Bowring, Helen Gregory, Herron and Oldman serving as executive producers.

The show has received widespread critical acclaim for its unique take on the espionage genre. It has won three Emmy Awards. This includes two for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and one for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

Season eight will be adapted for television and executive produced by Ben Vanstone, with Adam Randall returning as director.
