Supriya Yarlagadda Honoured as New CBFC Member, Vows to Bring Film Industry's Perspective

Producer-actor Supriya Yarlagadda has been appointed as a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This marked the first reconstitution since 2017. Yarlagadda, currently Executive Director of Annapurna Studios, was chosen by the Centre to represent cinema on the CBFC.

Yarlagadda expressed her honour at being appointed by the Government of India as a representative of cinema on the CBFC in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times. Industry analysts anticipate that she will contribute her perspective on the film and creative industry while gaining insight into the certification process and its mechanics.

Yarlagadda, who is also the niece of actor Nagarjuna, recently produced debutant director Uday Chauhan's Pallaburusu. The new board of the CBFC includes individuals from various sectors of cinema, television, music, writing, and theatre.

The members include filmmaker Vinod Anupam, writer Manoj Joshi, filmmaker Abhishek Jain, musician Ricky Kej, filmmaker Priyadarshan, actor Suniel Shetty, singer Hansraj Hans, producer Supriya Yarlagadda, poet Yatindra Mishra, actor Roopali Ganguly, actor Preity Zinta, filmmaker Neela Madhab Panda, actor Pankaj Tripathi, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, actor Pallavi Joshi, actor Nishigandha Wad, theatre personality Waman Kendre and writer Ramesh Patange.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the new board on Wednesday. The members' terms are set to last for three years or until further notice, whichever comes first.

The Centre has reconstituted the CBFC since 2017, with Yarlagadda's appointment marking a significant development in the film certification process. Yarlagadda aims to bring her experience and perspective as a producer-actor to the role.

The new board will take up its duties soon, with Yarlagadda set to work on understanding the certification process and its mechanics.
