US Authorities Warn Russian Dissidents Over Plotting Attacks

US security services have informed two Russian dissidents. Garry Kasparov and Ivan Tyutrin, about the potential danger to their lives, according to sources close to Kasparov. Kasparov, a former chess world champion and prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been living in the US since 2013.

Meanwhile, the US Justice Department has unsealed an indictment charging five individuals linked to the Kremlin with plotting attacks and murders in countries including the US. The alleged members of the RIS Network. A network of Russian intelligence operatives, are accused of conspiring to carry out killings of Russian dissidents and defectors worldwide.

According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Kasparov and another Russian opposition figure, Ilya Ponomarev, were warned about the plot over the summer by US authorities. Kasparov has been placed under enhanced protection since then, a move he had not experienced since moving to the US.
