The Jharkhand government's decision to cancel the state selection commission's Combined Graduate Level exams has raised questions about the role of TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), a testing firm at the heart of the controversy. TDPL has been embroiled in allegations of nepotism and irregularities, with some sources suggesting that the company's dubious record trails all the way to Lucknow in neighboring Uttar Pradesh.

In 2021-22, TDPL was one of three firms that conducted exams for 186 vacancies in administrative positions at secretariats of the UP Legislative Assembly and Council. The firm's involvement in the recruitment process has raised concerns about the integrity of the process, with some critics accusing the company of engaging in nepotistic practices.

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court described the irregularities linked to TDPL as 'shocking', raising questions about the company's integrity and its role in the recruitment process. The court also called for a CBI probe into the matter, which was later quashed due to lack of evidence.

However, sources close to the investigation have revealed that Ram Beer and key TDPL employees were arrested last month, while the whereabouts of Satya Pal are currently unknown. TDPL has been accused of engaging in nepotistic practices, with some sources suggesting that the firm's promoters, Ram Beer Singh and Satya Pal, have close ties to the UP government. The two men are also directors in four other firms, including Smiling Developers Pvt Ltd and LKO Food and Beverages Pvt Ltd.

According to RoC records, TDPL was incorporated in July 2010 and has shown significant revenue growth in recent years. However, the firm's financial records have been shrouded in secrecy, with some sources suggesting that the company's true financial situation is unknown.

Ram Beer and Satya Pal are also on bail in a separate recruitment case, based on a complaint registered in March 2021. Both men were arrested on April 7, 2021, records show, with large quantities of cash allegedly recovered from them.

The controversy surrounding TDPL has raised questions about the role of testing firms in government recruitment processes and the need for greater transparency and accountability in such processes.
