Saudi Arabia has issued a stern condemnation, attributing the attack on its Saudi-owned supertanker Sidr to an Iranian assault that resulted in the loss of two Filipino sailors.

The Bahri shipping company confirmed the incident occurred while Sidr was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, stating it was involved in a "security incident" and expressing profound sadness at the loss of life.

Maritime risk management firms marisks

Maritime risk management firms Marisks and Kpler reported that two tankers each carrying 2 million barrels of Saudi crude oil were struck in the same area, with the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency also confirming two incidents at the locations.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps stated that two oil tankers had been urged to transit via an "illegal route" in the Strait of Hormuz before striking mines and exploding, leaving both vessels on fire.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, with the latter condemning recent Iranian attacks on Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The Saudi foreign ministry stressed the need for halting escalation and respecting international navigation, energy supplies, national sovereignty, and international law.
