India Opens Doors to Liberian Lawmakers on Women's Empowerment &
India has opened its doors to Liberian lawmakers, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn from the country's successful women-led development and digital inclusion initiatives.
A delegation of 12 lawmakers from Liberia arrived in New Delhi last week for a five-day visit, during which they met key officials including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi. During their meeting with Jaishankar, the delegation discussed development programmes and shared experiences on initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. The Liberian lawmakers appreciated India's commitment to deeper Global South partnership and identified digital inclusion as a priority area for legislative attention in Liberia.
The visit has provided Liberian lawmakers with valuable insights into women-led development, political leadership, gender-responsive budgeting, economic empowerment, and digitalisation. One of the delegates noted that India's vision of women-led development gave them a powerful lens for their work on women's empowerment and gender-responsive governance.
