Bollywood Director Accused of Inappropriate Behavior on Reality Show Rise and Fall

Swara Bhasker has recounted a harrowing experience on the reality show Rise and Fall. Alleging that a Bollywood director made unwanted advances towards her during a romantic scene filming. The incident, which took place in the aftermath of her 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu's success, left her feeling unsettled and she firmly declined his request for a hug.

This prompted him to persist in his behavior.

According to Swara, the director had been texting her poetry about her looks and had told her that directors must love their actors. However, when she refused to rehearse for the romantic scene alone, he started drinking and began banging on her door, asking for a hug.

The incident occurred 56 days into the film's shoot, which was a long duration for a romantic scene, according to Swara.

Swara stated that she rehearsed for the romantic scene with the male lead, but the director insisted that she do it alone. She shared that she was the only woman at the guesthouse they were staying. And the lack of female presence made her feel isolated.

The director's behavior was a stark contrast to the supportive environment that Prime Video and MX Player aimed to create for the reality show.

Swara debuted on-screen in 2009 with the film Madholal Keep Walking. However, it was in 2011 that she got recognition for her supporting role in Tanu Weds Manu. She has since starred in several films, including Raanjhanaa, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and Veere Di Wedding.

The incident on Rise and Fall has sparked a conversation about the need for better working conditions and respect in the film industry.
