Wardogs CEO: Games Need to Cost More, GTA 6 Missed Opportunity

Wardogs lead Joe Brammer has stated that games need to cost more, and that GTA 6 could have been the trendsetter. According to Brammer, the economics of game development are "not complicated" and that it comes down to the fact that "games too cheap, cost of development too high."

Double Fine founder Tim Schafer, who spoke to BBC News earlier this week, expressed similar sentiments, saying that after industry-wide struggles and what have become yearly layoffs and restructuring from Microsoft, he doesn't "understand the economics of making games to be honest."

Microsoft's recent restructuring of Double Fine has led to the company returning to independence. The struggles in the industry have resulted in yearly layoffs and restructuring. With EA CEO Andrew Wilson receiving an enormous bonus last year thanks to the success of Battlefield 6.

Wardogs' price will increase throughout Steam early access, with CEO Joe Brammer stating, "if you don't agree with that, please don't buy it," The price increase is seen as a response to the industry's struggles and the need for games to cost more.

"games need to cost more," Brammer said. "I just assume it's, like, someone is being greedy somewhere. But industry analysts anticipate it is a cycle, and industry analysts anticipate it bounces back."

On GTA 6, Brammer stated that Rockstar "had a chance to raise the bar and they didn't do it, so we'll keep going round," while citing that Wardogs currently costs almost the price of a one-way train journey for him in the UK.

The price increase is expected to be met with resistance from some players. Who may not be willing to spend more money on the average game.
