Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis' new combat is built to "showcase some of the things that Lara used to do" on the PS1

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is set to offer a fresh take on Lara Croft's original adventure, while maintaining the spirit of the first game. The developers at Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog have successfully incorporated acrobatic elements into the game, allowing players to experience the thrill of combat with a modern twist.

The Focus system is one of the main gameplay changes in Legacy of Atlantis. When engaging in combat or taking damage, players build up their Focus meter, which enables them to slow down time and showcase Lara's acrobatic skills. This system celebrates the character's agility and allows for more precise control over her movements.

According to game director Raul Siqueira, the Focus system is designed to make combat feel more immersive and satisfying. 'We wanted to make sure there was a way on the sticks for that [acrobatic component] to be celebrated,' he explains. This approach ensures that players can relive the excitement of Lara's original adventures while enjoying the benefits of modern gameplay mechanics.

The game also incorporates elements from the newer Survivor trilogy, such as crafting and skill trees. However, fans of the classic Tomb Raider games will be pleased to know that they can still wield dual pistols throughout the entire game, if desired. This option adds an extra layer of challenge and authenticity to the experience.
