Samsung to Integrate Google Photos into Galaxy Gallery, Replacing OneDrive Sync

Samsung is reportedly preparing to integrate Google Photos into its Galaxy Gallery app, replacing its existing OneDrive sync feature. The move comes as Samsung has announced that it will be discontinuing its partnership with OneDrive for automatic photo and video backups through the Samsung Gallery app later this month.

The new integration, which is expected to become available sometime in late August or early October, will allow Galaxy users to back up their photos and videos directly to Google Photos. The service, called Gallery Cloud Sync, will reportedly offer controls to sync over Wi-Fi or while roaming, as well as show available Google storage options.

According to user Sandeep Adap, who spotted the new service on the Galaxy Store, the app listing mentions that Gallery Cloud Sync will safely back up memories to "Google Cloud" so users can access them across their devices. This suggests that Samsung is referring to Google Photos as the underlying storage service.

User That Josh Guy on X was able to preview the upcoming functionality and found that Samsung Gallery will offer an option to sync directly with Google. The Gallery settings will reportedly show available Google storage. Let users choose which albums to sync, and offer controls to sync over Wi-Fi or while roaming.

The OneDrive sync option has already started disappearing from Samsung Gallery for some users and is expected to be discontinued completely later this month. With the new Google Photos integration, Galaxy users will need to switch to using the service instead. The overall experience should remain similar, with the sync controls still built directly into the Gallery app.

This change is part of a broader effort by Samsung to reduce its reliance on third-party services like OneDrive.
