Mumbai, India - The Marathi psychological thriller 'Gondhal', selected as India's official entry for the 99th Academy Awards, will have exclusive preview screenings in six cities from October 9, ahead of its worldwide theatrical release in six languages, the makers announced on Friday.

Written and directed by Santosh Davakhar, the film will be previewed in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The screenings will begin on October 9 at four theatres each in Mumbai and Pune, followed by the other cities. The previews will be held in Marathi and Hindi.

At the heart of the film lies Suman. A stiflingly young bride whose life becomes a twisted game of cat and mouse with her lover Sarjerao, whose fixation on a centuries-old Gondhal ritual has become an all-consuming force, blurring the lines between devotion and destruction.

"For us, these previews are more than just early screenings; they are an opportunity to bring 'Gondhal' back to audiences for whom the theatrical experience was always at the heart of the film," Davakhar said.

Set against the rich cultural mix of Maharashtra, this film has long envisioned a communal cinematic experience. There, atmosphere, sound, and visuals converge in a shared theatrical space. Following India's Oscar nod, the director is now poised to bring the story to a wider audience, where viewers can immerse themselves without prior expectations. This allows the narrative's cultural nuances and psychological depth to unfold organically.
