  • US is one of the world's leading diesel suppliers.
  • UK to benefit from move, with diesel prices breaching £2 per litre mark.

The G7 has reached a consensus to release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel to ease supply pressures that have driven up prices. The move is a response to the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Which have restricted the flow of crude oil and refined diesel onto global markets.

The coordinated action, led by French President Emmanuel Macron, aims to bring down the prices of petroleum products, particularly diesel. The release will include a mix of diesel and crude oil. With the UK set to benefit from the move due to its heavy reliance on imports.

The 100 million barrels will be made up of diesel and crude oil. With the UK's diesel imports expected to be significantly impacted. According to Matt Smith, director of commodities research at Kpler, the recent strikes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen have contributed to the surge in oil prices.

The G7 leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining sanctions against Russia amid its ongoing war in Ukraine. The move comes as diesel prices in the UK reach a record high of £2 per litre. With over half of the country's diesel imports coming from the US.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) reports that the US is one of the world's leading diesel suppliers. With domestic refineries producing roughly four to five million barrels every day. Americans consume about 3.6 million barrels of that, with the remaining 1.2 to 1.5 million barrels per day being exported.

We will implement our commitments through a coordinated release of 100 million barrels. This includes a substantial diesel release, over the course of four months, said Macron in a joint statement with other G7 leaders.

Speaking at the White House, President Trump later clarified that an export ban on diesel was never a serious consideration. The coordinated effort is seen as a significant relief to countries reliant on imports of diesel, including the UK.

The G7 leaders have also agreed to coordinate maintenance schedules to avoid multiple refineries being shut down simultaneously. Additionally, they are encouraging countries with the capacity to do so to increase the production of diesel.

The US-led war in the Middle East and reduced supplies from Russia and China have contributed to the constrained international diesel market.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). The international diesel market has been heavily constrained by the conflict in the Middle East. The UK is set to benefit from the move, with over half of its diesel imports coming from the US.
