US Congressman Tom Tiffany was traveling in a small plane on Saturday night when it encountered a mechanical issue. Forcing him and the pilot to make an emergency landing in Lake Wausau. The aircraft, a Beechcraft K35, can carry up to five people.

Tiffany Said Pilot Called 911

Pair Managed Get Out Plane
The pair managed to get out of the plane and to shallow water where a Wausau Fire Department airboat rescued them about 15 minutes later, at 21:05 local time. The cause of the mechanical issue was not immediately clear. And the sheriff's office said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
Tiffany, a Republican nominee for governor, has been traveling extensively across Wisconsin since his campaign began. This incident is the latest in a series of close calls involving small planes in the state.
Last year, a plane carrying Democratic Party officials crashed into a lake near Madison, killing five people. The incident highlighted concerns about air traffic control and safety measures in the state.
