WHO Director Under Fire: Saima Wazed Seeks Independent Probe into Indefinite Leave
Ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's daughter, Saima Wazed, has sought an independent investigation into the action against her after being placed on indefinite leave The move comes as Wazed raises concerns about transparency and bias within the organisation.
Wazed, who took charge as WHO's Regional Director for the South-East Asia Region in February 2024, was placed on leave pending an inquiry four months after Bangladesh's Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases against her on charges of corruption, fraud, and abuse of power. An acting regional director was named, whose term has since ended.
