Ellen Greene to Reprise Audrey Role in Little Shop of Horrors 40th Anniversary Tour

Ellen Greene, the actress behind the iconic role of Audrey in the film 'Little Shop of Horrors', is revisiting her character for the film's 40th anniversary.

From Stage to Screen

The musical about a flesh-eating plant has been a beloved favorite for decades, and Greene's performance as Audrey has become an instant icon.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Greene discussed her experience playing the role of Audrey, which she first performed on stage in 1982.

"I didn’t think about it," Greene said. "It was weird, I mean, I don’t know where half of this stuff came from."

A Special Place for 'Somewhere That’s Green'

The catchy musical number 'Somewhere That's Green' holds a special place in Greene's heart, and she remembers first listening to it on the unemployment line.

"I just knew there was an Audrey inside of me waiting to be born," Greene said.

Greene will be making stops around the country for the next few months for 40th anniversary screenings, including performances of 'Somewhere That’s Green'.

A Tribute to the Musical

The film's success was not immediate, but it went on to become a hit, with one night even drawing in Steve Martin and Mary Tyler Moore.

"You would think I would just have been floored and so excited that he gave me this gift," Greene said. "Instead, I call him up and I’m crying my eyes out. And I’m saying, wait for this, ‘Where’s my trash can?’"
