US Ambassador Opens Door to Re-Evaluating Kashmir Travel Advisory
The United States is re-examining its travel advisory for Indian citizens visiting Jammu and Kashmir, a move that could ease restrictions for American tourists.
India’s Efforts Pay Off
Gor's comments come after a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar, where he praised India's efforts to make the region safer. The US Ambassador said that Washington was open to revising its travel advisory, which has been in place since 2019.
‘The United States puts out travel warnings,’ Gor said. ‘And every so often we re-evaluate travel warnings.’ He added that he couldn’t make any big announcements but assured that the US would look at the issue. Abdullah's government has made significant strides to improve security in Kashmir, and Gor acknowledged this during their meeting.

Next Steps Uncertain
The US Ambassador's comments have sparked uncertainty about what changes might come next. Gor's visit to Ladakh on Thursday is seen as a sign that the US is taking a closer look at the region's situation. Abdullah expressed optimism about the potential for improved relations between the two countries.
'This conversation will take place both between Ambassador Gor and Washington, and between me and the Government of India in New Delhi,' Abdullah said. He added that the engagement would 'widen and deepen in the years ahead.'
