Forensic pathologist details Tupac Shakur’s fatal wounds at Duane 'Keffe D' Davis trial

LAS VEGAS — The second day of testimony in the trial of Duane 'Keffe D' Davis, charged with orchestrating Tupac Shakur's 1996 murder, took a somber turn on Tuesday as family members and witnesses were shown graphic autopsy photos. The images, which depicted Shakur's battered body, caused some to become visibly shaken, while others remained steadfast in their resolve to see justice served.

Dr. Forensic pathologist Lisa Gavin, who serves as Clark County's medical examiner, testified early in the proceedings on the second day. As she described the gruesome details of Shakur's autopsy, Davis sat still, his expression unreadable. The nearly full courtroom fell silent as jurors were shown photos of Shakur's body, which had been bloated and battered

Shakur's cousin Zayd Akinyela, who had remained in the courtroom throughout the proceedings, expressed a mix of emotions after witnessing the autopsy photos. 'I feel like the details, especially for people that are close to him, honestly for me helps, helps the grief process,' Akinyela said outside the courtroom. 'A lot of people don't get to grieve until they understand what happened to their loved one and how it happened.' He added, 'That's why I wanted to stay and just see for my own personal closure.'

Akinyela had not known the full extent of Shakur's injuries, which included three bullets that caused significant damage to his lungs, intestines, and other organs. The medical examiner described how doctors ultimately removed one of Shakur's damaged lungs in an effort to save his life. The images were not shown in the video feed from the trial, but those present were left with a lasting impression.

The graphic nature of the autopsy photos was a stark contrast to the earlier surveillance footage, which showed Shakur and his entourage engaging in a heated confrontation at the MGM Grand casino. The incident, which occurred on November 30, 1996, ultimately led to Shakur's death. Prosecutors allege that Davis orchestrated the murder as revenge for Shakur's entourage attacking his nephew Orlando 'Ba

As the trial continues, the prosecution is seeking to prove that Davis was involved in a larger conspiracy to avenge Shakur's death. The defense, on the other hand, claims that the prosecution's narrative is 'fiction.' With the graphic autopsy photos serving as a stark reminder of the brutal reality of Shakur's murder, the jury will have to weigh the evidence carefully as they consider the fate of Duane 'Keffe D' Davis.
