Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has decided to drop Endowments Minister Konda Surekha from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) shared. A formal release released For Surekha to be officially dropped from the Council of Ministers, Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has to give his assent.

Alongside the ministerial removal, the Chief Minister has also decided to rescind the appointment of G Chinna Reddy as the vice-chairman of the Telangana Planning Board with immediate effect. In place of G Chinna Reddy, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been appointed as Vice Chairman, Telangana Planning Board, the release noted.

Vijayalakshmi previously served as the Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. She was earlier with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) but joined the Congress in 2024.

In the same official release, the CMO confirmed several other key leadership changes across state departments and bodies. The Chief Minister has approved the appointment of Nerella Sharada as Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women in Hyderabad.

Furthermore, the administration approved the appointment of G Sudha Rani, former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, as Chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA). Government Orders detailing these appointments were officially released on Thursday.

Before these executive decisions were finalized, a disciplinary committee had reviewed various internal matters. The committee recommended removing G Chinna Reddy from his position as state Planning Board vice-chairman. A detailed report regarding this matter was submitted directly to Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and party MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud for further review and action.

Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Congress leader, MP, and disciplinary committee chairman Mallu Ravi stated that the TPCC president would take up the matter with AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. She would then inform the party high command and act based on its recommendation, Ravi explained to reporters during the briefing session.

At the press conference, Mallu Ravi emphasized the importance of internal rules within the political organization. “Discipline is paramount within the Congress party as the party’s prestige hinges on discipline of its rank and file. Disciplinary action must be taken so that the party comes to power again,” Mallu Ravi said while addressing media personnel.

Surekha stated that she had met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to present her case, though she also said she was denied an audience at various points.

Soon after the Chief Minister’s office confirmed its decisive actions, Konda Surekha released copies of letters she had written to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal, and the party’s Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. In these communications, she asserted that she was unfairly discriminated against on account of being a “BC woman leader”.

In her letter to senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, written on August 23, she alleged that key decisions within the Endowments Department were being taken entirely without consulting her. Specifically, she said that she was kept out of the Yadadri Temple Trust Board process, that Sammakka-Saralamma temple funds were shifted to the Roads and Buildings Department, and that her photograph was noticeably omitted from official government publicity materials.

The ongoing political developments mark a significant shift in the internal dynamics of the Telangana government and the state Congress unit. With multiple administrative posts being reshuffled alongside the removal of a high-profile cabinet minister, party leaders continue to stress adherence to official directives and organizational discipline as the administration moves forward with its agenda.
