AI Dictation Startup Wispr Scores $280M in Funding to Expand Its Reach

Wispr, a popular AI dictation tool provider, has secured $280 million in Series B funding, according to sources. The new funds will enable the company to expand its offerings into new areas such as meetings with its recently launched note-taker tool.

The latest round of funding brings Wispr's total capital raised to $361 million, just over 10 months after its last major investment. This influx of cash comes at a time when the dictation space is becoming increasingly competitive, with apps like Willow and Monolouge vying for market share.

Existing investors, including Notable Capital, NEA, Neo Ventures, 8VC, and MVP Ventures, have doubled down on Wispr's latest funding round. New investors such as Acrew, Forerunner, Goodwater, Peak XV, Together Fund, and PLUS Capital have also joined the company.

Wispr has been working to improve the quality of its dictation output, particularly with its 'Canto' model, which promises to reduce error rates from 30% to less than 10%. The company has faced criticism over a recent quality dip in its 'Flow' tool, but the new model is expected to address these concerns.

Wispr has also been expanding its reach into new markets and regions, including India and the UK. The company's dictation app is now available on Android, and it has partnered with hardware makers like Oasis to enable users to dictate on their devices without speaking loudly.

In addition, Wispr's meeting notetaker tool is taking on competitors in the space, such as Granola and Fireflies. While its notetaker can display summaries and action items, there is potential for it to integrate with other tools and create documents or email drafts.

Wispr has also established a new research lab called Wispr Interface Labs, led The lab aims to explore new interfaces for human-computer interaction.

The funding news comes as the company continues to navigate the competitive dictation space and address concerns over data quality and user experience.
