Zack Gelof Returns Healthy, Boosts Fantasy Value

We have reached the dog days of August across baseball, and September is just around the corner. If you need to make up ground in your fantasy baseball league, there are still some viable options available on the waiver wire.

Top Waiver Wire Targets for Week 22

Injuries have limited Zack Gelof to just 70 games this season, but he's now healthy and continues to be productive when on the field. Over his last three games since being activated from his injured list, he's gone 5-for-12 with two home runs, three RBI, and five runs scored.

Gelof plays in a very hitter-friendly environment, which makes him an even more appealing target on the waiver wire. With a .280 batting average and .502 slugging percentage for the season, he's a solid addition to any fantasy roster.

The White Sox are in first place in the AL Central, thanks in part to their strong starting rotation. Luis Castillo has been a key contributor, posting a 32.5% strikeout rate and a 2.20 ERA. Taylor, who took over as closer after Dominguez was traded away, hasn't allowed an earned run since July 2.

Another player worth considering is Kyle Carrigg of the Rockies. He's contributing in multiple areas, batting .292 with five home runs and seven stolen bases over 53 games. After showing a selective eye at the plate in the minors, he has a 20.1% strikeout rate and an 11.0% walk rate.

Carrigg is thriving at hitter-friendly Coors Field, where he's batting .354 with a .419 wOBA. The Rockies have six home games scheduled for Week 22, giving Carrigg significant fantasy upside.

Brian Conine is on fire for the Marlins, going 16-for-50 (.320) with a .414 OBP over his last 16 games. He's already launched 13 home runs this season and has a favorable schedule next week, including a three-game series against a Nationals team that has the second-highest xERA and fifth-highest WHIP in baseball.

For fantasy managers desperate for saves, consider picking up Taylor or Joyce. The Angels' closer has thrown scoreless innings in each of his first three appearances off the injured list and logged his first save of the season while throwing a scoreless frame against the Rangers on Wednesday.
