Vishwanath and Sons opens to mixed reviews with ₹15.5 crore net debut.

Vishwanath and Sons, starring Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, has opened to mixed reviews and decent box office collections on its first day. The film's opening figure of ₹15.5 crore net in India is lower than expected, but it still managed to perform better in Tamil than Telugu.

Key Development

The film's performance was largely due to its strong morning and afternoon shows, with an occupancy of 29.85% and 33.54%, respectively. However, the evening and night shows saw a significant drop in occupancy, at 36.38% and 62.69%, respectively.

Despite this, the film's opening figure is still higher than its previous films Karuppu and Retro. While Karthik Subbaraj's Retro opened to ₹15.50 crore, it received lukewarm reviews. The film made ₹60.58 crore net in India in its lifetime, giving Suriya a much-needed boost.

With the weekend approaching, Vishwanath and Sons is expected to see a boost in collections before an expected dip during the weekdays. However, it remains to be seen whether the film will beat the lifetime hauls of Suriya's previous films.
