Truck Rams Women Helping Scooterist in Jharkhand, 7 Killed Including Infant

A tragic collision in Jharkhand's Khunti district on Thursday night resulted in the loss of seven lives. This includes an infant, after a speeding truck struck a group of villagers who had gathered to assist a stranded scooterist. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm, when a scooter had slipped into a roadside ditch in the village.

This prompted the scooterist to seek help from local residents. Several women from the village, accompanied by children, converged on the scene, only to be struck by the speeding vehicle.

Authorities believe the truck, likely originating from the Ramgarh-Hazaribagh route, was traveling at a high speed and lost control while navigating a turn. The 16-wheel truck then careened into a nearby tree, leaving a trail of destruction and tragedy in its wake.

The Khunti Superintendent of Police has launched an investigation into the incident, which has left the community in shock and mourning.

Eleven-month-old Saurabh Nayak and six others have been confirmed as victims of the accident. Among them, Anjali Kumari, Pako Devi, Jayanti Devi, Manhu Devi, Golu Kumar, and Tuti Kumari have been identified. A five-year-old, Khushbu Kumari, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Khunti Sadar Hospital.

The truck driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene, disabling his phone, according to eyewitness Garg. Police are now working to locate the driver and reach out to his family to facilitate his surrender.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. His message conveyed a sense of sorrow and empathy. As he wished for the souls of the deceased to find peace and strength to the families to bear this loss.

He also expressed hope for a speedy recovery to those injured and undergoing treatment.
