Inside the Claustrophobic World of Paradiso Palms: The Tense Atmosphere is a Character in Itself
The film's greatest strength lies in its ability to craft an oppressive atmosphere, which is expertly amplified by the claustrophobic setting of the Paradiso Palms apartments. The tension is palpable as the tenants huddle together, desperate to survive the deadly spider invasion. Director Ángel Gómez Hernández skillfully utilizes close quarters and clever camera angles to create a sense of unease, making the audience feel like they're trapped alongside the characters. However, this atmosphere is not consistently maintained, with some scenes feeling overly reliant on jump scares.

The Cast's Reluctant Survival: Chemistry and Character Development Take a Backseat
The ensemble cast, comprised of Matilda Lutz, Gary Anthony Stennette, Elena Sanz, Andrea Scott Méndez, Isabella Marie Egizi, and Sam Lucas Smith, is given limited screen time to develop beyond their initial reactions to the spider invasion. While some actors show promise, particularly Lutz and Stennette, their characters' personalities and motivations are woefully underexplored. The chemistry between the leads is nonexistent, making their desperate attempts to survive feel forced and unconvincing.
A Bloated Second Half with a Few Sparkling Laughs: Redemption from the Fractured Narrative
The film's pacing falters in the second half, with what feels like an eternity spent on an underwhelming subplot involving the building manager's mysterious past. However, when the narrative refocuses on the spiders, the tension is momentarily reignited, and the laughs from the supporting cast are genuinely endearing. Unfortunately, these fleeting moments of levity are not enough to salvage the film's overall disjointedness.
