Iran's Underground Missile Bases: Satellite Images Suggest New Construction and Repairs
Analysis of satellite images suggests that Iran is undertaking significant new construction work near at least two of its major missile sites. As well as repairing bases damaged by months of US and Israeli air strikes.
The Garmdareh military base in Karaj, near the capital Tehran, and the Shahroud base in the north, have been identified as key locations for this effort.
British intelligence firm MAIAR has uncovered indications of clandestine excavation and construction at several sites. This includes the Kermanshah missile base in western Iran, where new roofs have been erected on damaged buildings. At least 12 other military installations, encompassing missile complexes and air bases, are showing signs of recent repairs.
Meanwhile, at the Parchin military complex, east of Tehran, personnel have been busy clearing debris and rubble from damaged structures.

Experts speculate that the excavations near Shahroud could be related to the production of missiles. Given the nearby air base has been targeted multiple times in recent years. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is believed to be seeking ways to move its production facilities underground to protect them from further strikes.
A MAIAR analyst noted that Iran has a pattern of moving infrastructure underground to protect it from further strikes. This strategy has the added benefit of making it harder for outside observers to assess the extent and operational status of the facilities.
US and Israeli attacks on Iran may have contributed to the country's loss of control of the Senate for the next six years, according to Vice-President JD Vance. Vance cited the war's unpopularity with voters as a factor in the Republicans' poor performance in the recent midterm elections.
Iran's military is conducting targeted maintenance at various bases nationwide. Focusing on repairing critical infrastructure severely damaged by airstrikes since the US-Israeli conflict escalated. This effort follows repeated assurances from the White House that the strikes have significantly depleted Iran's armed forces.
According to a MAIAR analyst, the purpose of this construction is to better defend itself against future attacks. This effort prioritizes rebuilding military capability over rehabilitating the economy.
