Gen Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukraine's former commander-in-chief, has made several key claims about the current state of the war in Ukraine. In an exclusive interview with the BBC, Syrskyi stated that Russia's ability to advance has been significantly hindered by Ukraine's military efforts, with Moscow's overall losses in the conflict being six times higher than Ukraine's.

Syrskyi's comments come after he was dramatically forced from his post in the summer due to a major disagreement with then-defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Fedorov had previously stated that the army under Syrskyi had blocked his initiatives, rather than adapting to the changing war situation.

Syrskyi asserts that Ukraine's military has successfully stabilised the front line, with Russia's forces unable to make significant gains. He notes that the number of Russian soldiers killed by Ukraine is significant. With the total exceeding 11 times the number of Ukrainian casualties.

Syrskyi highlights the importance of Ukraine's use of drones in the country's military efforts. Officials stated that they account for 80% of Russia's losses. He also emphasizes the need for European allies to take the conflict more seriously.

Warning that Russia may have territorial ambitions beyond Ukraine.

Syrskyi's sacking is attributed to his disagreements with Fedorov over procurement of weapons and supplies. Syrskyi alleges that Fedorov created an "imbalance" in supplies, with the army receiving only half of what they needed. He also criticizes European allies who doubt Russia's intentions.

Syrskyi advises European partners to start preparing for the war now, cautioning against "all illusions that [it] will not come". He believes that Ukraine's war is likely to become increasingly technological. With the use of robots, automated systems, and artificial intelligence becoming more prevalent.

Syrskyi notes that even ordinary weapons are now being equipped with AI-based control systems to enhance their capabilities. This development is seen as a significant factor in Ukraine's military efforts. With Syrskyi confident that the country's military will continue to adapt and evolve in response to the changing conflict.

With the war showing no signs of abating. Syrskyi's comments serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges facing Ukraine and its allies. As the conflict continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Syrskyi's predictions will play out.
