Kangana Ranaut Takes Aim at Sonia Gandhi in Meme Row
Kangana Ranaut has found herself at the center of a new controversy after posting a meme that appears to mock Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's reaction during the rendition of Vande Mataram on Independence Day.
The BJP MP and actor shared a meme featuring a scene from Christopher Nolan's recent hit The Odyssey, comparing Odysseus's reaction to that of Sonia Gandhi listening to Vande Mataram. The meme has sparked widespread debate and discussion among politicians and citizens alike, with some accusing Kangana of crossing the line into personal attacks.
According to sources close to the matter, the controversy began when several BJP leaders accused Sonia Gandhi of objecting to the singing of the full version of 'Vande Mataram' during a flag-hoisting ceremony at the party headquarters. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also alleged that Sonia Gandhi asked Vande Mataram to be stopped midway through the programme.

However, the Congress has denied all such claims and asserted that there was no attempt to stop the singing of the full version of the national song. Instead, the party said Sonia was only asking for a chair for Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, as he had been standing for a while.
The controversy comes days after Parliament cleared amendments to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, granting 'Vande Mataram' status at par with the national anthem. The move aims to promote unity and patriotism among citizens.
Kangana's decision to share the meme has been met with both praise and criticism from her fans and detractors alike. While some have defended her right to free speech, others have accused her of being insensitive and dismissive of Sonia Gandhi's concerns.
