Indian Railways Introduces Third-Party Season Ticket Booking on RailOne

In a significant digital upgrade aimed at modernizing commuter convenience, Indian Railways has expanded the functionality of its integrated RailOne mobile application. Suburban and inter-city rail passengers can now book, renew, and manage season tickets on behalf of family members and fellow travelers through a single user account, eliminating previous restrictions that limited passes strictly to the account holder.

The new ticketing feature accommodates standard suburban season passes, including monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual options. Commuters who previously had to navigate congested physical reservation counters or create separate individual digital accounts can now centralize family commuting logistics within a unified mobile interface.

Identity Verification Guidelines and Anti-Fraud Safeguards

To prevent misuse and ticket scalping, railway authorities have implemented strict verification guidelines governing third-party pass purchases. When booking a season ticket for another passenger, the primary account holder must accurately input the beneficiary's full government-recorded name, age, gender, and unique identification number, such as an Aadhaar card, voter identity card, or passport reference.

"Passengers traveling on a season ticket booked by another user must always carry the valid digital pass within their RailOne app or a verified printed physical copy along with original government identity proof," a senior railway official emphasized. Ticket checking staff across suburban zones have been issued updated hand-held terminals capable of scanning QR codes to cross-reference passenger credentials instantly.

Modernizing Commuter Infrastructure Across Suburban Transit Networks

The feature roll-out addresses long-standing requests from commuter advocacy groups in bustling metropolitan centers such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Delhi-NCR, where millions of daily passengers rely on suburban rail arteries. By simplifying digital renewals for elderly relatives, school students, and household members, the railway administration expects a considerable migration away from physical ticket windows.

Railway IT divisions confirmed that additional optimizations, including offline ticket verification and flexible payment gateways through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and digital wallets, are being phased in across subsequent application updates to support seamless high-density transit.
