At the recently concluded BRICS Business Forum, representatives from member nations underscored a pivotal shift in economic strategy: the transition from symbolic inclusion to the systematic integration of women-led enterprises. Despite the well-documented geopolitical tensions characterizing the modern global landscape, nations as diverse as Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aligned on a common goal: the cultivation of robust, transnational networks for women entrepreneurs and innovators.
The Urgency of Economic Resilience
The call for integration comes at a moment of profound global anxiety. As nations across West Asia and the Eurasian continent navigate the dual pressures of regional conflict and the ripple effects of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, policymakers and business leaders alike are looking toward women-led businesses as a primary source of economic resilience.
Estimates presented during the forum highlighted a compelling figure: approximately 80 percent of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the BRICS bloc are led These entities have become essential drivers of employment, innovation, and digital transformation, yet they frequently encounter systemic barriers to scaling their operations.

Bridging the Gap: Innovation and Trade
During the sessions, the dialogue focused heavily on moving beyond simple networking to achieving tangible, measurable economic results. Rahaie, president of the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Iran, highlighted the unique resilience of women operating in high-sanction environments.
She noted that such conditions have forced women entrepreneurs to master 'frugal innovation'—the ability to derive high-value, sustainable outcomes from limited resource pools. These skills, she argued, are precisely what the global market requires to navigate today's fiscal instability.
Complementing this perspective, Feryal Ahmadi of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) provided a practical roadmap for future cooperation. This bridge-building model is emblematic of the shift toward the practical economic cooperation that the forum now seeks to prioritize.
From Policy to Platform
The BRICS Women’s Business Alliance (WBA), an official mechanism established in 2020, has taken the lead in advocating for these structural changes. Anna Nesterova, Chairperson of the BRICS WBA (Russia), emphasized that cultural exchange is the bedrock of trust, but that trust must be supported Nesterova explicitly proposed the creation of a dedicated B2B matchmaking platform specifically for women, aimed at facilitating cross-border trade and ensuring that smaller, women-led enterprises can secure the capital necessary for international growth.
The Road Ahead: Integration and Representation
As leadership of the BRICS bloc shifts from India to China, the mandate for the WBA has sharpened. Zhao Haiying, Chairperson of the WBA’s Chinese chapter, articulated a vision for transforming introductions into enduring commercial partnerships.

The focus is no longer merely on meeting, but on ensuring that women have a seat at the table when core trade, investment, and macroeconomic policies are negotiated.
Mónica Monteiro, Chairperson of the BRICS WBA (Brazil), provided perhaps the most poignant summary of the collective mission: 'We have the governance, we have organization, we have the network, we have the human right to do business. And this is a great achievement.
But now we need to be heard.' Her call serves as the guiding principle for the alliance as it moves into the next phase: a shift from visibility to true economic weight.
